It’s our pleasure to announce that BSkin by Bowes have made the wonderful decision to support rewilding in the UK. By sponsoring the Natural World Fund rewilding programme, they are not only sequestering carbon and reducing their carbon footprint but, importantly, are also supporting our struggling wildlife through the creation of vital habitats.

BSkin By Bowes is a relatively new company, set up by mother and daughter duo, Amanda and Kelsi Bowes, during lockdown. They crafted their face masks and scrubs using ecocert and Cosmos certified French Clays. All of their current products are of the highest quality and contain natural, organic and sustainable ingredients. You won’t find any synthetic colours or perfumes, hormone-disrupting parabens, or any problematic nano materials in any of their products. From the beginning, environmental care has been at the heart of their every decision. 

The beauty industry, despite how it tries to portray itself, continues to be very damaging to the environment. Not only have many of the ingredients used had minimal testing, but also a number of known-to-be-harmful chemicals are still regularly added and often hidden on packaging under umbrella terms such as ‘fragrance’. Harmful preservatives, such as phenoxyethanol and parabens, and forever chemicals, aka PFAs, are all too common in products. This is why it’s so encouraging to see startups like BSkin By Bowes addressing this issue.

Not only are their products vegan-friendly and both kind to your skin and the environment, but impressively their packaging is also totally recyclable and biodegradable. A lot of big companies say that their products and packaging is recyclable, but in reality most of these claims don’t hold up to scrutiny. Often the local facilities are unable to process their wrapping, and many parts still add to pollution or have to be thrown away in a landfill.

Inspiringly, this is not the case with BSkin By Bowes. From their recyclable cardboard jars, to their compostable mailing bags, right down to their biodegradable bubble wrap; it is all sustainable. Even the glue for their recyclable labels is biodegradable – they have thought of everything. When you help to restore a patch of degraded land through rewilding to forests, meadows, or wetlands, you have a massive impact on the biodiversity at a local level. You give animals a home and food that they otherwise would not have had, and it has a positive snowball effect for the food chain.

We are convinced that this is much better for the UK than growing lots of fast-growing coniferous trees, solely to remove carbon, that don’t actually help our animals to thrive.
